# How to Reset MFA for a User

## Learn how to reset multi-factor authentication (MFA) to keep your SamaCare. 

### **Overview**

Practice admins can now reset multi-factor authentication (MFA) directly in SamaCare for users at their practice. This self-service option lets you resolve most MFA issues without needing to contact SamaCare Support. 

### **Who Can Reset MFA:**

- Practice users with Admin capabilities can reset MFA for other users at their practice.
- Non-admin practice users cannot reset their own MFA or another user's MFA. If you don't have Admin access, please reach out to your practice admin.

Follow the steps below to reset a users MFA

### **Step 1: Log in to SamaCare**

- Log in to your SamaCare account as usual.

### **Step 2: Go to Settings**

- From the left hand navigation menu, select Settings.
- Then click 'Users'

### **Step 3: Locate and Select the Affected User**

- Find the user who needs their MFA reset and select their profile.

### **Step 4: Reset MFA and Confirm**

- On the user's profile, click the Reset MFA button.  
  Click Yes to confirm the reset.

### **What Happens After Reset?**

- The user's existing SamaCare authenticator codes become invalid.
- The user logs in again with their email and password.
- SamaCare displays a new QR code.
- The user scans the new QR code with their authenticator app.
- The newly generated code can then be used to access SamaCare

Tip: Ensure the user has removed any old SamaCare entries from their authenticator app to avoid accidentally entering an invalid code

### **Quick Reminders:**

- Resetting MFA does not change or reset the user's password.
- Existing authenticator codes stop working immediately after the reset.
- Users must enroll in MFA again using the new QR code.
- Users should scan only the most recently generated QR code, having multiple authenticator entries can cause an outdated code to be entered by mistake.

An MFA reset will not resolve password issues or accounts that were never activated. If resetting MFA doesn't restore access, please contact SamaCare Support for further assistance.
